Metallurgical testwork

A useful test begins with a representative sample and ends with a decision.

We use testwork to answer decisions—not simply to generate laboratory reports. Every test should have a purpose: confirm an assumption, compare a route, identify a loss, define a product or reduce uncertainty before scale-up.

Sequence

Design the program from the decision question.

We design each stage around the decision question, preserve sample identity and expect the results to reconcile.

01

Define the sample

Source, lot or domain, mass, particle size, moisture, collection protocol and representativeness.

02

Characterize

Head assay, mineralogy, liberation, associations, sequential Cu or Au deportment where appropriate.

03

Bench test

Gravity, flotation, leach or other test with defined variables and objectives.

04

Analyze products

Feed, concentrates, intermediates and tailings with mass, assay and moisture as applicable.

05

Close balances

Reconcile mass and metal, compare repeatability and review anomalous results.

06

Translate to decision

Define next test, flowsheet, operating condition, commercial constraint or rejection criterion.

Testwork design

Priorities by material type.

We adapt the program to the mineralogy and the final product rather than force every material through the same test sequence.

Mixed copper ore

Compare sulfide and oxide response, sulfidization where applicable, pH, reagents, kinetics, regrind, grade and recovery.

Gold ore

Separate gravity response, sulfide flotation, residual deportment and eventual leach response.

Product quality

Assay impurities and moisture early to avoid optimizing a concentrate that later has poor marketability.

Technical chain

Trace samples and results.

We expect every metallurgical result to trace back to the original sample and the lot or domain it represents.
